The Salesian Province of South India needed a place for an Aspirantate for boys from the Mumbai and Goa Regions. Not many parents were willing to sacrifice sending their sons to ‘far away’ Tirupattur. Fr. Mauro Casarotti, first sensed this reluctance and understood the problem. He floated Lonavala as the place for the Aspirantate and in June 1962 approval for Stds. 8th and 9th was granted. As the house was not ready, Mr. D.C. Nazir offered the Salesians the use of his bungalow.

On April 30, 1962, Fr. Hubert D’ Rosario, Fr. Eliseo Bianchi and Fr. Rubio took possession of the Nazir Bungalow. Fr. Joseph Murphy, Don Bosco Lonavla’s first Rector arrived in Lonavla on June 15, 1962 with Fr. Joe Dhyrianathan as Head Master.

June 20, 1962: A Red Letter day as Don Bosco Lonavla commenced its first Academic year with 31 students. On March 19, 1964 the new building was inaugurated with the visionary Fr. Mauro Casarotti as Rector & Fr. Cajetan Lobo as Principal. A separate school block was set up in 1975 under the Management of Fr. Joseph Casti. Simultaneously, the old S.S.C was replaced by the new 10+2 system and the Junior College was also added. Fr. Vincent Vaz succeeded Fr. Joseph Casti in 1978 and guided Don Bosco Lonavla with mathematical precision.

Fr. Romulo Noronha organized the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Don Bosco Lonavala in 1987. From that silver moment, Lonavla enjoyed its journey towards its Golden Jubilee under the leadership of Fr. Cletus D’Souza in 2012 keeping at the forefront its motto: “VIRTUE KINDLES STRENGTH”.
